Teaching little ones what Christmas is really about

As we go into the holiday season, we want our children to not get caught up in the hustle and bustle and the “gimmes”. We can put out nativity sets, we can color pictures of Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus, but are they *really* getting it?

I love what one of my favorite bloggers does. Instead of putting presents under the tree in the weeks leading up to Christmas, she places stacks of Christmas story books on the tree skirt to encourage *reading* and immersing in the Christmas season and story.

Some of my favorite children’s Christmas books are:

An Advent Experience for Little Hands

Another great resource for helping little ones truly understand the meaning behind Christmas is a great ebook resource written and designed by my friend Amanda.

Each day Truth in the Tinsel will lead you through a short passage of scripture, a corresponding ornament craft, and talking points for you and your kids.

  • It’s more than a devotion- it’s meditation and hands on learning for kids.
  • It’s more than a craft book- it’s a memory builder for your family
  • It’s more than an e-book- it’s an experience and an adventure builder in God’s word!

And if you are worried it will be “too much” there are some alternate schedules, even one for “just the basics”!

Amanda even has a short video to show you how easy it is!
